How Much Is YouTube Premium in Nigeria? Plans, Prices and What Is Included

YouTube Premium in Nigeria has been priced at ₦1,700 a month for an individual plan and ₦2,800 a month for a family plan since YouTube's April 2025 increase. Since May 2026, some subscribers have reported a further rise to ₦2,200 (individual) and ₦3,600 (family), rolled out in phases. A student plan is shown to eligible users at a lower price.

Because YouTube applies changes from each subscriber's next billing date, two people can see different prices in the same month. The figure on your own YouTube "Get Premium" or "Purchases and memberships" page is the one that applies to you. Prices here were reviewed in October 2026.

What you get with YouTube Premium

Ad-free videos

The main benefit: no ads before or during videos on YouTube, including on TV apps when you are signed in. Creators can still include their own sponsored segments inside a video; Premium does not remove those.

Background play

Videos keep playing when you lock your phone or switch apps. This is handy for podcasts, lectures and music videos.

Downloads

You can save videos in the app for offline viewing, then watch without data. Downloads need you to reconnect at least once every 30 days to stay available. Our YouTube Premium downloads guide covers the limits.

YouTube Music Premium

Every YouTube Premium plan includes YouTube Music Premium, so you get ad-free music, background listening and song downloads in the YouTube Music app without paying separately.

How the price has changed

YouTube Premium launched in Nigeria at much lower naira prices. In April 2025, YouTube raised the individual plan from ₦1,100 to ₦1,700 (about 54%) and the family plan from ₦1,700 to ₦2,800. Since May 2026, subscribers have reported a further step to ₦2,200 and ₦3,600, with some receiving notices or forced re-subscriptions before others. Each change applies from the next billing date after YouTube's notice, not on the same day for everyone.

If you received a price-change email, you can keep the membership at the new price or cancel before the renewal date. Cancelling keeps your benefits until the end of the current billing period.

Which plan is cheaper per person?

For a household of two or more people living at the same address, the family plan is usually cheaper per person. At ₦2,800 for up to six people, a full family group costs under ₦500 each. Even at the reported ₦3,600, six members works out to ₦600 per person.

The catch: YouTube's family plan rules require every member to live in the same household as the family manager, and YouTube checks location periodically. A family plan is not a way to split a membership with friends in different homes. Read our YouTube Premium Family guide before inviting anyone.

How to pay for YouTube Premium in Nigeria

YouTube bills through Google Play on Android, Apple on iPhone (sometimes at a higher price because of App Store fees), or directly on youtube.com/premium. Common payment options are:

Tip: if you are on iPhone, compare the price in the YouTube app with the price on youtube.com/premium in a browser. Signing up on the web avoids App Store pricing differences.

Is there a free trial?

New members are sometimes offered a free trial or a discounted first period. Eligibility depends on your Google account history. Our YouTube Premium free trial guide explains who qualifies and how to avoid an unexpected first charge.

Is YouTube Premium worth it in Nigeria?

It is worth it if you watch YouTube daily, use it for music, or rely on downloads to save data. A single ad-free hour of tutorials or podcasts each day adds up quickly. It is less useful if you mostly watch short clips occasionally, or already pay for a separate music service you are happy with.

Compare the monthly price with what you already spend on Spotify or Apple Music. Because YouTube Premium includes YouTube Music, some people replace a separate music subscription and save overall.

Buying YouTube Premium through a marketplace

The DiscountZAR streaming marketplace lists YouTube-related offers from verified sellers. Read each listing carefully: an invitation into a family group must follow YouTube's household rules, and an upgrade on your own account is a different product from shared access. Check duration, renewal terms and what happens if access stops.

Common questions

Why does my price differ from my friend's?

YouTube applies changes from each member's next billing date and rolls them out in phases. Billing through Apple can also cost more than paying on the web.

Can I cancel any time?

Yes. Go to your profile, then Purchases and memberships, choose YouTube Premium and cancel. You keep benefits until the end of the paid period.

Does YouTube Premium include YouTube TV?

No. YouTube TV is a separate US live-TV service and is not part of Premium.

Summary

Expect to pay about ₦1,700 to ₦2,200 a month for an individual YouTube Premium plan and ₦2,800 to ₦3,600 for a family plan in Nigeria, depending on when your account moves to the newest price. Check your own membership page for the exact amount, and pick family only if everyone lives in the same household.
