Apple Music Family Plan: Price, Invitations and Who Can Join
Adekiya Joscor · 27 October 2026
The Apple Music Family plan gives up to six people full Apple Music, each with their own library, playlists and recommendations, under one subscription paid by the family organiser. It works through Apple's Family Sharing, so everyone needs their own Apple Account and must be in the organiser's family group and in the same country or region. In Nigeria, iCloud+ subscribers have been offered Apple Music Family at a reduced ₦2,500 a month; check the standalone family price in your Music app before you switch.
Rules here follow Apple's Family Sharing documentation and Nigerian pricing reports, reviewed in October 2026.
How much is Apple Music Family in Nigeria?
Apple sets naira prices for each plan and has raised them several times. The individual plan is about ₦1,700 a month when paid to Apple directly. For the family plan:
- With iCloud+ — reported at ₦2,500 a month for the organiser who pays for iCloud+, following Apple's September 2026 bundle changes.
- Standalone — shown in the Music app under Account > Manage Subscription, or in Settings > your name > Subscriptions on iPhone.
Even at a higher standalone price, a family plan usually beats two or more individual memberships. See our Apple Music price guide for every plan.
Who can join an Apple Music Family plan?
- Up to six people in total, including the organiser.
- The organiser must be an adult (18 or older) and pays for the subscription with the payment method on their Apple Account.
- Each member needs their own Apple Account. Children under 13 need an account created by a parent or guardian in Family Sharing.
- Members must use the same country or region for their Apple Account as the organiser. A Nigerian family plan cannot include accounts set to another country.
- One family at a time. You can belong to only one Family Sharing group, and Apple limits how often you can switch to a different family each year.
Apple designed Family Sharing for families and households. It is not intended for selling places to strangers, and accounts used that way can be removed by the organiser at any time.
How to set up the family plan
- On iPhone, go to Settings > your name > Family Sharing and set up a family if you do not have one.
- Open the Music app, tap your profile, then Manage Subscription (or Settings > your name > Subscriptions > Apple Music).
- Choose the Family plan and confirm. The change applies at your next billing date or immediately, depending on the screen shown.
On Android, open Apple Music, tap the three-dot menu, then Account > Manage Subscription to change plans. Family Sharing invitations are managed from an Apple device or the Apple Account website.
How to invite family members
- Go to Settings > your name > Family Sharing > Add Member.
- Choose Invite Others and send the invitation by Messages, email or AirDrop, or invite in person.
- The person accepts on their device and signs in to Apple Music with their own Apple Account.
Once they accept, Apple Music unlocks automatically. On Android, the member opens Apple Music and signs in with the Apple Account that is in your family group.
What each member gets
- The full Apple Music catalogue, lossless and spatial audio on supported devices, and lyrics.
- Their own library, playlists, listening history and recommendations. Members do not see each other's music.
- Downloads for offline listening on their own devices.
Removing members or leaving
The organiser can remove any member from Family Sharing settings. A member can leave from Settings > your name > Family Sharing > Leave Family. Their Apple Music access stops, but their library can return if they start their own subscription soon after.
Family plan vs other options
- Individual — best if you are the only listener.
- Student — cheaper for a verified university student; see our Apple Music Student guide.
- MTN airtime billing — individual only; MTN does not support Family. See Apple Music with MTN.

A note on "family slots" from sellers
Places in strangers' family groups are sometimes advertised. Joining someone else's family means they control billing and can remove you at any time, and switching families has annual limits. DiscountZAR requires family and invitation-based access to follow each provider's official account-management rules. Check the listing terms on the music marketplace before buying.
Common questions
Can members be in different countries?
No. Everyone's Apple Account must use the organiser's country or region.

Who pays?
Only the organiser. Members are not charged.
